Our Story
Personal Profile
Enable SEND Education was founded by Alex, an experienced educator and passionate advocate for children and young people with additional needs. The company was born from both personal and professional experiences, and a deep frustration with the barriers faced by neurodivergent individuals, particularly those who find themselves without a suitable educational placement.

Alex’s journey began in language and communication, studying British Sign Language Interpreting/English (BA Hons) at the University of Wolverhampton. As a BSL interpreter, she worked in a variety of settings, including education, where she discovered a strong passion for supporting learners.

After the birth of her first child, Alex retrained as a teacher, completing a PGCE in Primary with Mathematics (QTS), and began working in mainstream education. However, her personal journey took a significant turn when her own child began to show developmental differences. After a long and challenging process, supported by a dedicated nursery and family, her son was diagnosed with Autistic Spectrum Condition (ASC).

This experience opened Alex’s eyes to the invisible struggles families face when navigating the system. She saw first-hand how underprepared and under-resourced many mainstream settings were in meeting the needs of children with SEND. Despite completing additional training in Understanding Autism, Alex recognised that more meaningful change was needed.

She moved into the SEND education sector, first as a maths teacher and later as an Assistant Headteacher, where she supported students aged 5-19 with complex needs, including ASC and a wide range of comorbid conditions.

During this time, Alex became acutely aware of a gap in support for students who were out of education, waiting for a suitable placement, or at risk of losing their current one. Families often shared difficult stories about tutors lacking the understanding or experience to engage learners affected by school-based trauma or those who communicated through behaviour.

Enable SEND Education was created to fill that gap, offering trauma-informed, relationship-first tutoring and consultancy grounded in lived experience and professional expertise. Alex believes that every young person deserves to feel safe, understood, and supported, and that education must adapt to the learner— not the other way around.
