SEND Tutoring

Alex is an experienced and compassionate teacher with a deep understanding of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), having worked with a wide range of profiles across both mainstream and specialist settings. What sets Alex apart from many other tutors is her unwavering belief that positive relationships must come before learning.

Her first priority is to connect with each individual, taking the time to understand the unique challenges they face, as well as their previous experiences with education. This process includes speaking with both the student and their family, building a clear and holistic picture of the learner’s needs, strengths, and support requirements.

Once trust is established, learning can begin...but it’s never one-size-fits-all. Every session is bespoke, shaped around the learner's pace, preferences, and readiness. For some students, this means gently rebuilding their relationship with education while they await a suitable placement. For others, it means continuing their learning journey in a way that truly works for them.

Alex has particular experience supporting students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, and recognises that behaviour is a form of communication. Using a trauma-informed approach and frameworks such as Bloom’s Taxonomy, she focuses on creating emotionally safe learning environments. This helps learners move beyond the 'fight, flight, or freeze' response and begin making meaningful, lasting progress—academically, socially, and emotionally.
